On the road again
Listening to Jack Johnson’s last album on my way to Milan. Yiippiiiiieeeeee!!!
Aussie !
Today I received a PDF extract from In&Out Design Magazine in Australia, featuring my Offset Stool among the best products spotted at Salone Satellite of Milan. THANK YOU !

I usually don’t publish non-design related items, but I think I choosed my next phone. Unbelievable sleek design, rational use of new materials, elements both functional and decorative: I think Jony Ive could be considered the modern Dieter. Do you agree?

Monocle !
Thanks to Monocle for having featured me on the Salone Video Review ! It’s not the longest appearance in history, but I am among the few spotted !

This is courage too.
I just read an article from Stylepark titled “Success depends on courage”, where they analyze the Salone Satellite lack of courage, and the pretentious professional-syndrome of young designers, as well as the lack of digital-related products among others.
Now, I wonder if these journalists or contributors have a minimum preparation or knowledge about what Satellite...

Robo chair by Luca Nichetto
Luca Nichetto designed a new chair for swedish company Offecct. The inspiration came from a Bjork videoclip in which an android-like Bjork is built and assembled, hence the name Robo. But in my opinion what is more interesting is the chair constructive method: the unassembled chair can be wrapped in a small package, and this makes the shipping more rational. Besides this, the chair is made of...
10 principles for good design by Dieter Rams
Vitsoe today published ten principles stated by Dieter Rams about good design. He is still up-to-date even 30 years after. Meditate.

Wooden spectacles
In my quest for a pair of spectacles thinking different from the usual acetate/synthetic materials, I bumped into these beautiful german glasses. They are all handcrafted, but no hint about the price. I’ll ask, one day !

Shortlisted ! :D
I recently participated in the Designboom contest in collaboration with Macef and -surprise!- I’ve been selected to be shortlisted (I didn’t win, tough) !
The theme of the contest was “the Intelligent Hand”, which is the hand of a craftsman who express a great awareness of what real design is, by adapting his skills to the substance he’s working on. I decided to...

Lacquered E8 Table by Mathias Hahn
Dezeen today has published this really cool lacquered table designed by Mathias Hahn, from Okay Studio. I really appreciated its proportion as well as the use of the lacquer everywhere except on the top, revealing a beautiful redwood texture.
Mathias took inspiration from some postwar improvised furniture, and decided to exaggerate the tails of the top allowing user to easily fix the table even...

Otto Vases by Luca Nichetto
Luca Nichetto always impresses me when he works with glass. His venetian spirit emerges and he gifts us with some delicate and fascinating designs. Now it’s the turn of Otto vase made with Venini. Otto means eight, in italian, to underline the eight layers of glass blown in the Murano’s furnaces to create this range of decorative vases. They come in a limited serie, by the moment, and...

New project for MILE
MILE is a group of three japanese designers I met during my holidays on Japan, this year.
Well, these guys are really brilliant: they started thinking about the way industrial processes are somewhat obscure to designers themselves, so they developed a new way of thinking about small series and small factory needs. The result is -by the moment- a really nice stool: Love One.
Keep on, guys!...

Fragments of Nature by Lex Pott
I was surprised by this young, Netherland-based designer and I think his F.o.N. serie is really poetic and suggestive. Check his site and find out the whole story!
I'd like to...
…to post something about last design object I’ve seen, but I don’t actually see anything new and cool. :(
Suggested Book of the Day
I’m readying a well written book about design and design seen as a business, a less romantic but more practical way to see design and design processes.
It’s “Designers are wankers”, by Lee McCormack. Highly suggested.
Back to Work !
Let’s start a great 2010 ! (yawn)

I really like Front. They always think about the life of a product, so a Front object has always a fourth dimension. Keep going, Front !
Japanese design principles
FUKINSEI (imbalanced) Asymmetry, odd numbers, irregularity, unevenness, imbalance is used as a denial of perfection as perfection and symmetry does not occur in nature.
KANSO (simple) Elimination of ornate and things of simplicity by nature expresses their truthfulness. Neat, frank and uncomplicated.
KOKOU (austere) Basic, weathered bare essentials that are aged and unsensuous. Evokes sternness,...
